My life is just doing something amazing right now.

I have a dream …

That one day I could… simply put… live off the land.

No longer did I want to rely on the super market to provide me with all my produce. No longer did I want to accidentally consume chemicals (e.g pesticides), and so much more…

I dreamed of a day where I could walk out into my own garden in the morning or evening and pick what I needed from the plants and enjoy my fresh meal, just like that.

However I have always lived my life in small flats with my family, with no garden and very small balcony spaces.

Two years ago, in 2016 I decided I wanted to kick off this dream by growing what I could in the small space that I had. I took in a few small houseplants at first, I really fell in love with cactuses and succulents.

I then moved over to Shoreditch for a short while where I began to take in and care for some larger house plants, which…I kind of killed or nearly killed most of them now. uh sorry… I was not a fit mother please don’t hate me.

But I wasn’t going to let a few failed attempts stop me from achieving my dream, so I started growing produce like potatoes , spinach, tomatoes, etc. I loved it, but for some reason in Shoreditch the air where I was living was super dusty and my plants kept contracting mites/ aphids , bugs… No matter what I did they always came and devoured my plants, it did stress me out for the longest time and made me feel like I just didn’t have the green finger and I contemplated giving up and just having 1 or 2 house plants instead.

Time went on and eventually I moved back home with my family and we were in a new flat with a front balcony space and not much else.

I asked my mum if I could use that space to grow plants and she was delighted to have me grow plants there. (even when i started all the neighbours were telling us how nice it all was and started growing stuff of their own. I love that!:D )

I have to say, I am not the richest person in the world so at the beginning it was all pretty bare and nothing much was going on for the longest while. Over time I went to places like B&Q to shop the plant sales , I visited places like wilkos or searched the internet for hours for the cheapest tools , even hunted the streets and I went to a few nurseries to get cheap baby plants and seeds so I didn’t have to spend so much money on fully grown plants .

This did make my job harder, as I had to teach myself a lot about how to grow from seed and care for the plants in all seasons, but this was really worth it because now I have a much bigger understanding of a wide array of plants and their growing cycles.

Again , I was doing better than before but I did kill a lot. Even recently I killed a ton of plants that I had spent a lot of money on because we had a very frosty cold winter….which hasn’t happened in years, I believed they would be fine out there and then it snowed – that meant game over…

When Spring came along this year I had to rid the space of all the dead… I was back to near empty. A little sad but still undefeated. (At least all my house plants were still alive and healthy)

I took my booty down to the nursery again to purchase a bunch of plants and since then I have collected a few more along the way.

It has most definitely been a hot spring and summer…the hottest ….and to be honest I think the plants absolutely love it.

Currently my house plants and balcony garden is flourishing!

After lots of trial and error, I’ve almost figured out what they all like. .

I’m actually really happy about all this green because recently I have decided to take this path/dream more seriously and go to college to study horticulture ( I got in!haha ) This is going to make a big jump in my current knowledge and really help me in future.

😁 I start September yay!πŸ˜„.

I also found a person nearby, as well, who’s offering up their massive garden so I can grow my crops all year round.πŸ’šβœŒ

– This is a little crazy for me as I have never worked in a garden space, I’m literally going to have plants growing in the ground omg! .. This could either go really badly or absolutely amazing. I’m sure my course will help me out. (still deciding whether i should take it on right now though)

Another crazy thing thats happening is that in the winter the tree I told you I was adopting is coming! (It’s gonna be 2 years of nonstop watering to make it as big and strong as the giants surrounding it but it’ll be all worth it when I have a  healthy beautiful tree, that can live maybe 100-300 years and I can indulge in all the amazing fruits – still got to decide what tree to get -please help me with suggestions πŸ˜…).

I honestly thought , for the longest time, that I was only going to be able to grow a few bits on my small balcony and now suddenly all these opportunities are happening and my dream to live off of fresh foods that I grew myself is becoming a reality 😍.

I put out my dream into the world and here I am making it a reality 😁😁😁

FREEDOM!

Its actually so weird how life has played out, I never in my wildest dreams would have thought I would be growing plants and learning about plants… its a very weird reality for me right about now.

Which fruit tree do you think I should grow? I want to try something different and exotic that can grow in UK …πŸ˜‹πŸ€”πŸ€”

CHRISTINA SKY, GROW YOUR OWN FOOD #PLANTS

@skychristina @faceplaceslaces 5

I have most definitely been away from the modelling game for quite a few years now, and somehow I met up with an up and coming photographer ( @FACESPLACELACES ) and was able to just get right back into it.

@skychristina @faceplaceslaces 9

From the ages of 16 -19 years old I modelled part time, and loved it.

My dream was to be a high fashion model in big magazines, modelling for designer brands or modelling for artists across the world to deliver an incredible message.

@skychristina @faceplaceslaces 7

The jobs I worked were nothing big, even though I met a lot of big time celebrities at the time, but as I creeped closer to my 19th birthday I realised that in this day and age, I was never going to be a high fashion model.

I am 5″5 , with boobs and curves. At the time I could fit into size 8 clothes, but I was a size 10 – nowhere near what I needed to be to be a high fashion model. ( Haha I am a lot bigger than that now ) I needed to at least be 3-4 inches taller, I was getting bored of being casted for party scenes in high heels and revealing dresses, and t shirt companies that disappeared after the first shoot. So I decided that maybe it was time to end this career and I did.

Don’t get me wrong, I was offered big paying modelling jobs of up to 10-20k… but it would require me to have my breasts out. Glamour modelling… because of my body type.

@skychristina @faceplaceslaces 3

I look back and I realise that things have changed so much over the years since social media has come and now there is plus size modelling..( not that I am big enough to even do plus size modelling ) Girls with curves are jumping into the high fashion scene and the modelling industry is becoming more open, more real. Also photographers are more open minded about the models they add in their art.

@skychristina @faceplaceslaces 1

So last week I jumped up in my bed, popped my laptop open and thought, I need to just get out there and take some pictures. I applied for some castings and many photographers got back to me. I still got the odd few asking for nudity but I got tons more who were open and respected my boundaries.

@skychristina @faceplaceslaces 2

That is where these photos came along.

The moment I met @FACEPLACESLACES I immediately felt comfortable and jumped back into the model role, produced some incredible images and had an enjoyable time. @FACESPLACESLACES is an amazing photographer , as you can see, and you should definitely give him a follow and check out his other work on instagram or his website.

I definitely had quite a few insecurities/fears holding me back and I am glad I just did it, instead of telling myself I’m not good enough. It does help that times have changed and the industry is more accepting of more natural looking girls and guys, as it helped give me a boost of confidence ( I feel like I have a chance now to do something I love without feeling pressured to drop my standards ) I have also now booked other shoots and am looking forward to doing more in future with some incredible artists.

So my message to you is, when you feel the time is right, make sure you adjust yourself mentally and just take the dive ( or take small steps towards your goal – which ever way you feel you can handle …but do not just stand still because no one will pick you up and carry you to your goal )

How I STOPPED my SUGAR CRAVINGS! [Video]

Health + diet, SUGAR-FREE

So it has been a few months since I have quit sugar, and I feel like I have tried and tested so many things to get me through this tough period.

I realised that I have so many tips / tricks, that I use daily, to help STOP MY SUGAR CRAVINGS and thought why not share it with all of you.

This video is all about tricks i have developed along the way through my crazy experiences going Sugar free.

Trust me, Ive been to the bottom – hunting the fridge in the middle of the night for something sweet – not realising how addicted i was to this poisonous substance… But now i am here to help you out with my top ten tips on how you can potentially curb your own sugar cravings. If this helped you or you think this could help out a Friend or family member then please SHARE , LIKE , and SUBSCRIBE.

So, I wanted to do a quick update on my sugar-free journey because I realise with recent events, that I have fallen off the bandwagon and haven’t explained anything to you, my sugar-free friends.

Going back to eating sugar has definitely resulted in my facial skin going back to looking bad and spotty, and the fat I lost during the challenge on my back and abdomen is slowly returning.

I really could go into a million excuses as to why and how but thats exactly what they are – just excuses.

So basically I did a month of being sugar free and it was amazing! I did it, it was easy and the results physically and mentally were amazing.

this is the video of me talking through my results with before and after pictures ^^

and heres me explaining why I done it :

This was only about 3months ago

and previous to that I did it for 90days.

But just like when I did it for 90 days –

I fell off the bandwagon and started eating sugar again.

It’s become increasingly hard to do, when outside of the challenge and behind closed doors, I can secretly fulfil cravings whenever I please. Where as when I am in the spotlight, I feel the stronger need to keep up the sugar -free life. I am in a constant battle with myself to stop eating sugar and it is extremely stressful.

I am currently working on a dream wall and a part of the dream wall, I am going to add a section all about the reasons why I am sugar-free so I can get up and read it every day and rewire my mind deeper so I can let go of these poisonous products. I thought that I could do this as easily as I became vegan…. but I have come to realise my relationship with sugar, is far deeply rooted then it was for me and animal products.

I wasn’t really a big fan of dairy or meat so going vegan, cold turkey, was easy to do, plus I hadn’t really eaten red meat since I was about 12 years old.

Sugar on the other hand is something I have eaten at high doses on a daily basis since I was born. As a teenager most of my meals were bags of chocolates or sweets, and my diet was never really monitored in my teenage years, eating chocolate and sweets was more encouraged.

The only solution I see here is to really jump into my self and understand my connection with sugar.

My friend, in one of her videos put it quite right :

” …Korea obviously has lots of junk food too, but I have no attachment , no sentimental attachment to the junk food …”

– Mimimina the Nuevist – Youtube

It is true – I eat a lot of things my mind has a deep set memory toward and connection to – my mind knows – this food is amazing and the second I see it, I get triggered.

It also doesn’t help the I live with my family and I look in the fridge or kitchen and there is snacks, bread, sugar everywhere.

I am going to take time to develop my relationship with fruits and vegetables and diminish my relationship with sugar.

I might even go as far as getting my own mini fridge so I can live with just looking at my own food for a while.

This is definitely something I am set on conquering and making a normal thing in my life just like being Vegan. I am accepting the fact that it may take some time for this to be normal for me, that there may be many ups and downs (lots of me falling off the bandwagon – but picking myself up quicker each time – without pressuring myself too hard) and that it will not be easy.

So I am starting my sugar-free journey up .. right now! πŸ˜›

“Letting go of Processed Sugars 2018”

Let me know what you think, and if you have been through this already and conquered it, please do share with me your tips.
